South Carolina coal plants and mountaintop removal

South Carolina ranks among the top ten consumers of mountaintop removal coal nationally, with roughly 50 percent (or eight million tons) of our state’s coal coming from mountaintop removal coal.

The press event will focus on the specific connection between South Carolina coal plants and mountaintop removal sites in West Virginia and Kentucky, and will feature residents from the region who have been directly harmed by mountaintop removal coal mining in their communities.

Powerful visuals including a three-dimension maps and images that trace mountaintop removal coal from Appalachia to coal plants in South Carolina.
