Speech writing is in lots of ways similar writing a paper, apart from that there is no penalty for spelling and punctuation mistakes. You should not try to write words in your speech that you are not relaxed pronouncing or don't know the meaning of because it can lead to a less fluently delivered speech.
To be able to write a high-quality speech is a lot like making a good cake. Having the right elements is key for it's success. Every…

Early voting legislation H3608 has been submitted in the state legislative branch. First it was submitted to allow 15 days of early voting the Judiciary Committee changed it to 3 days. I emailed by representatives urging them to restore 15 days of early voting back into the bill.
Will you call your State Representative and ask her/him to vote against 3 day
early voting in South Carolina and support the original 15 days?

I spoke with three different Canadians recently at different times and all three of them have no complaints about their health care. Their wait in line is no longer than what we are waiting now here with private health care. It is no waiting six months for surgery. All lies by some of our fellow Americans.

I have just called Congressman Browns’ office @ 747-4175 and left a message that he should in the name of conservativism summit a bill to cut all government health care for federal elected officials meaning all of Congress and the US Senate. Let’s see if that will fly.

Dear President Obama #116: …and out come the wolves
Posted: 08:45 AM ET
Reporter’s Note: From his home on Pennsylvania Avenue, President Barack Obama has asked Americans for advice on running the country. From my office, just a stone’s throw from the Capitol (if it were a really perfect stone, you had a really sort of super-human arm, and security police would not pound you to the ground) I am sending a letter to the White House every day.

South Carolina ranks among the top ten consumers of mountaintop removal coal nationally, with roughly 50 percent (or eight million tons) of our state’s coal coming from mountaintop removal coal.
The press event will focus on the specific connection between South Carolina coal plants and mountaintop removal sites in West Virginia and Kentucky, and will feature residents from the region who have been directly harmed by mountaintop removal coal mining in their communities.

On Earth Day, we enjoyed the beautiful weather and celebrated Mother Earth by working in the Community Garden. Shea, our energetic leader, has provided space in her yard for the garden. A cold snap had threatened some of the plants, but Jennifer, Anj and Shea successfully revived them by digging them out of the ground and replanting them in starter pots.
The Community Garden is organic, using the lasagna method of layering soil, compost and wood chips. All materials are local. For Earth Day, we…

Hello everyone,
The Environment Committee held a short meeting on April 11 after the Grassroots meeting at Alchemy. We discussed some new ideas. Jennifer Johnson suggested a "green the greenway" initiative to clean up the greenway. She is going to look into contacting neighborhood groups to partcipate.
We also talked about getting information on all the green committees and groups in the area, becoming a central source of knowledge about them, and filming groups' meetings.
The committee also…

Hiya!
I saw this blurb in the Utne Reader last week and checked the website today. It's pretty interesting, and in my opinion well worth signing up, please read on -
"Solar Power in Numbers: One Block Off the Grid makes solar energy a community effort by securing neighborhoods bulk discounts on equipment and installation. The all-volunteer program boasts some 700 member homes in 20 cities." Utne Reader Jan/Feb 09

March 12th I went to a county council meeting that was highly interesting and informative on the pros and cons of whether or not to renew the 20 yr. contract the country has with the incinerator near Spruill Avenue. The council is still in the process of making a decision, but it seems to me that most are leaning towards closing it. The good news is that everyone seems to be in agreement to ramp up recycling and composting in Charleston county, and to explore green technology.
Without the incine…

I want to inform the group that am a veteran and I have been visiting the VA hospital here in Charleston over the last few weeks. I noticed that the old Commander in Cheif's picture was hanging on the wall long after leaving Office. Then George Bushes picture was removed. I t is going over 2 months now and the Charleston Va hospital seem to have refused to put up the current Presidents picture.

Hello Everyone!
It's time for a Help the Environment Challenge for everyone: Don't buy any plastic water bottles this week. Buy a cheap water bottle to refill and use it instead of buying water. Re-using a water bottle or glass instead of buying water in plastic bottles saves money and helps the environment.
Here are some plastic bottle facts:
In 2006, Americans drank about 167 bottles of water each but only recycled an average of 23 percent. That leaves 38 billion water bottles in lan…

Hope for Obama, America, and the World
This week the world witnessed an amazing moment: As Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States in front of almost two million Americans and over a billion viewers around the globe, one could sense the emergence of a new era in America - one of change, hope, and responsibility.
President Obama's inaugural message was a clarion call to service and action. "What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility," he said. "A recognition,…

Hello!
Two members of the Environment, Energy, Science, Technology and Transportation have done some research on local transportation issues and resources. Evelyn Dolven researched the following groups:
1)Transportation Ass'n of South Carolina -- go-tasc.org; they are advocates for transit-friendly legislation in South Carolina; the site gives a vast amount of information from how the state is planning for future needs to who pays for public transportation; and much more
2) CARTA www.ridecart…

When Waring Howe spoke to our group on Saturday, Jan. 17, he made some thought-provoking comments on redistricting. South Carolina will face a redistricting after the 2010 census, and may gain another House representative in 2010 due to population growth. The entire South will gain more influence in Congress after the census due to migration.
In the past, the State legislature has redrawn the lines to benefit incumbents. Both the 1st and 6th Congressional districts, which encompass the Charlest…
